Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.
Every other Saturday morning volunteers from Unity go to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Paterson and refill the Bible racks in the waiting rooms. We deliver English and Spanish New Testaments, English and Spanish Gospels of John and ‘Today’ devotional booklets. These racks have been getting filled for over 40 years.
The Booster Club is a committee whose purpose is to raise money to support Eastern Christian Schools and the church’s Tuition Assistance Program. Monthly fundraisers such as participating at the school Christmas Bazaar, flower sales, bus trips and service auctions are held to help raise this money. If you would like to volunteer to help on this worthwhile and active committee we would love to have you.
The Fellowship Committee is always looking for new volunteers to help serve coffee and refreshments after church and to assist in planning and serving at other church fellowship events such as pot-luck dinners.
The Helping Hands Committee handles 3 separate functions, transportation, meals and funeral luncheon arrangements. Transportation can be arranged and provided to anyone who is unable to find a way to hospitals, doctor’s appointments, etc. Meals can be provided to those suffering short term illness or other instances where they are unable to prepare their own meals. Arrangements for luncheons after funerals can also be handled by this committee for those wishing to have a time of refreshment in church following a funeral service.
Every Sunday night from late November through March , Unity Church welcomes ten men from the Good Shepherd Mission in Paterson. These men are picked up and brought to church and are fed a home cooked meal. After the meal there is fellowship with the host volunteers and then the men bunk down for the night in the fellowship hall. In the morning they are served a light breakfast and then driven back to the Good Shepherd Mission. Unity, along with other area churches, have been part of this program for more than 25 years. Hundreds of men have been fed not only with food but with the Holy Spirit from this important ministry.
The nursery provides care for infants and toddlers during both the morning and evening worship services. It offers a safe and fun atmosphere while the parents/guardians spend time in worship. The nursery is located just to the left as you enter the church annex through the rear parking lot door.
Unity Church’s softball team plays in the Interchurch Softball League against other area churches. There is usually 1 game a week between May and July before a round-robin playoff tournament. This is a great way to fellowship with other church members as well as meet friends from other churches and get those competitive juices flowing.
Our ushers are volunteers of all ages who assist our members and visitors before the services. They also pass out the bulletin which gives information for the service, a calendar of events and news about the church. If you have any questions while worshipping at Unity, please ask an usher.
